West Orange ST. MARK'S SCHOOL ST. MARK'S SCHOOL OPENED AT THIS LOCATION CIRCA 1862 AND WAS WEST ORANGE'S FIRST PUBLIC SCHOOL USED FOR ALL GRADES. THE TOWN'S FIRST HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF NINE STUDENTS GRADUATED FROM HERE IN 1893. THE FIRST WONS OPENED ON NEARBY GASTON STREET IN 1896 AND THIS SCHOOL REMAINED IN USE UNTIL 1912 WHEN FAIRMOUNT GRAMMAR SCHOOL OPENED. IN 1915 ST. MARK'S BECAME THE ESSEX COUNTY VOCATIONAL SCHOOL UNTIL DESTROYED BY FIRE IN 1926. THE FIRST WEST ORANGE MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT MET HERE ON APRIL 18, 1863. www.downtownWO.com Submitted by @lampbane
