RAILROAD CROSSING
Your are standing in the path of the North Pacific
Coast Railroad. Completed from Sausalito north
in 1874, it made the mill and resort much more
accessible to San Francisco area cities. Visitors
could leave the cities by ferryboat, board trains
near Sausalito, picnic in the park, and return the
same day.
Freight trains carried raw materials to the mill
and returned with paper products, wood and
mail. Dairy goods got to market in hours. The
railroad helped Samuel Taylor's ventures thrive.
