R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. Calumet Plant
Time and Life magazines, mail-order catalogs, and telephone
books were all printed at this premier publishing house
throughout the 20th century. Built in stages to the design of noted
architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, this outstanding industrial
building is detailed with stone and metal ornament depeicting
symbols from the history of printing. The building's prominent
corner tower was designed by architect Charles Z. Klauder, an
expert on the Gothic Revival style, after the death of Shaw.
