Plaque, "The Hiring Fair"

The bi-lingual text includes the English wording, "We didn't sleep much that night and it was hardly day when everybody started gathering in the market place of the fair. There were farmers there from every quarter of Ulster. They probably thought that they'd get people like us from the western part cheaply enough and they knew of course the reputation we had that we were as good workers that could be got in the country" The sculpture, by Michael Harron, was commissioned by Letterkenny Urban District Council in 1994.
