The plaque reads - Centenary of the Thirlmere Act North West Water Authority dedicated the use of this land to the parish in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Royal Assent to the Thirlmere Act on May 22nd 1979. George Mann, Chairman, NW Water Authority An adjacent plaque commemorates the planting of trees by local children at the same time. The plaques appear to refer to a small area of land (~600 sq m) adjacent to Wythburn Church, which presumably does not include the car park, since parking fees are collected by United Utilities (successor to NWWA) and do not benefit the church.
