Judson Hartwell Grambling

Grambling's Namesake

Grambling's early development was centered around a small sawmill owned by a millright named Judson Hartwell Grambling, a European American for whom the town and university are named. Around 1884, Judson bought land in the area that would become Grambling and established his sawmill. This was the first commercial entity to provide jobs for the early setters who were moving to the area.
