This public burial ground was established in 1823 on land donated by Colonel Peter Quin. Jr. for Holmesville, which became the seat of Pike County in the Mississippi Territory in 1816. The first burial was that of Lucretia Quin, the infant daughter of Colonel and Martha Quin, in 1823. Many prominent citizens are buried here, including Reddick Sparkman, a county sheriff and the contractor who built the clerk's office on the town square in 1848, and Rev. Peter Quin, Sr. an early settler and veteran of the Revolutionary War.
