FATHER OF COLORADO UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL
FRED FOLSOM 1873-1944
In 1895, Fred Folsom was named head football coach at the University of Colorado. That year, he coached CU to the first of three consecutive championships and during his three terms as coach, CU won ten championships. Folsom was a CU Law graduate, Professor of Law 1905-1942, and a practicing attorney. He served as a Major in the Army in World War I. During his tenure as counsel for the University, he arranged for the financing of the stadium. The stadium field was renamed for Folsom following his death in 1944.
This sculpture was commissioned by Fred Folsom Jr.,
sculpted by Fred Folsom III, and dedicated in 2004.
