Coastal Grassland

 

The coastal grassland is a gentle and stable landscape shaped and influenced by strong winds. This community does not come into frequent contact with salt water. The primary species of coastal grass on Pier 26 is the little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium). These grasses provide important habitat to several bird species including the Savannah sparrow and red-winged blackbird.
