WILLIAM MILLS, WAS BORN IN
DUNDEE, SCOTLAND AND BECAME
A PROSPEROUS TAILOR AND PLANTER
IN CHARLESTON. HE WAS THE FATHER OF ROBERT MILLS, PUPIL
OF THOMAS JEFFERSON AND AMERICA'S FIRST NATIVE
PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED
ARCHITECT.
THE HOUSE REMAINED IN
THE MILLS FAMILY UNTILL 1835
WHEN IT WAS SOLD BY WILLIAM'S
DAUGHTER, SARAH. IT WAS
RESTORED IN THE 1930'S BY
MRS. HENRY CHISOLM
PLACED BY THE
PRESERVATION SOCIETY OF CHARLESTON
