Wildfire Memorial Kamloops

During the summer of 2003 the Thompson-Nicola region endured its most devastating wildfires ever. Unprecedented in numbers and massive in scope, the fires destroyed 89 homes and 7 businesses, scorched 62,000 hectares of forest and range lands, left hundreds jobless and caused the evacuation of 13,000 people.

Wildfire Memorial, created by artist Cameron Kerr of Vancouver, BC, is dedicated to the evacuees and to the thousands of firefighters, emergency workers and volunteers from far and near who worked tirelessly to assist them in every way possible.

Commissioned by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District with the support of the City of Kamloops.
