Thorn Creek Woods is dedicated to the memory of Mary Lou Marzuki, 1926-1984, whose skill, enthusiasm and integrity made possible the preservation of these woods as a natural heritage for all generations.
—Dedicated May, 1985
(Now here's a plaque with some personal meaning. My siblings and I grew up in these woods, which are about 30, 35 miles due south of Chicago's Loop. Mary Lou, who's memorialized here, was one of our mom's oldest friends, and the two of them worked closely (with others) to head off the development of the forest.)
