The Princes' Gates
"The Princes' Gates were officially opened on Tuesday August the 30th MDCCCCXXVII [1927] by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales accompanied by H.R.H. Prince George. First to pass through these gates was a Veterans' Parade under the auspices of the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League for review by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales."

The Prince of Wales referred to on the plaque became King Edward VIII in 1936 and later abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson; H.R.H. Prince George then became King George VI (of "The King's Speech" fame). H.R.H. Prince George's daughter, who was an infant when this plaque was erected, later became Queen Elizabeth II.
