On September 11, 2001,
the courageous men and women enshrined on these walls responded to the attack on the Twin Towers at the World Trade Center to rescue the 28,000 people trapped therein.
They rescued more than 25,000 and brought them to safety before the collapse and perished with those they could not save. It is to their bravery and devotion to duty that we dedicate this memorial
