Thaddeus Kosciuszko National Memorial

"Thaddeus Kosciuszko. After servinf as a military engineer during the American Revolution, he later led an uprising in his native Poland. Exiled the General resided in this house from November, 1797, to May 1798."

General Kosciuszko lived in a room on the first floor of this house while in Philadelphia to petition Congress for wages he should have received during the war. Jefferson was visitor here during his stay. The house is maintained as a museum.

Congress finally voted to award General Kosciuszko with his backpay.
