Shelby Farms Park has a rich
history as the former site of the
Shelby County Penal Farm
Across the slough used to be the largest
ground silo in North America. It was so
large that trucks and tractors drive
through easily.
Beaver dams are common in this area.
Abe Plough donated the land to make
Plough Park possible.
Pine Lake is so called for the
surrounding pine forest, planted by
Inmates to control erosion by wind.
Pine Lake Drive is based on top of one
of four viaducts representing the farm's
aqueduct system.
