René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de la Salle

 René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de la Salle was born on November 22, 1643, in Rouen, France. His Father, Jean Cavelier , owned a large piece of land called La Salle, and René-Robert became known as Sieur de La Salle, which means "The gentleman from La Salle." La Salle was an explorer, best his expedition through the Mississippi river basin, where the region for France, and named it Louisiana after XIV. He died in 1687, during his final expedition, where he was to invade and conquer part of the Spanish province of Mexico.
