(1914-1965)
A graduate of Hume-Fogg and Vanderbilt University, Randall Jarrell was a distinguished poet, critic, novelist, essayist, and teacher. Jarrell Joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942, serving as a celestial navigation tower operator during World War Il. His poetry often addressed childhood Innocence, with later works also focusing on the wartime experiences of young soldiers. He was the 11th U.S. Poet Laureate
(1956-58) and won the National Book Award for
poetry in 1960
