HOME OF RANDOLPH BRUCE
(1863 - 1942)
BRUCE CAME TO CANADA IN 1885 FROM HIS NATIVE
BANFFSHIRE, SCOTLAND. A CIVIL ENGINEER, HE WORKED
10 YEARS BUILDING RAILWAY AND BRIDGES FOR THE C.P.R.
MINING. FEVER BROUGHT HIM TO THE WINDERMERE VALLEY
IN 1887. A MINING AND LAND DEVELOPER AND ENTREPRENEUR,
HE WAS A MAJOR INFLUENCE IN OPENING THE VALLEY FOR
SETTLEMENT AND WORKED TIRELESSLY
TO BUILD THIS COMMUNITY.
HE MARRIED LADY ELIZABETH NORTHCOTE IN JANUARY 1914.
SHE DIED 20 MONTHS LATER AND IS BURIED NEAR THE
LAKESHORE IN FRONT OF PYNELOGS.
BRUCE WAS:
LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF BRITISH COLUMBIA 1926 - 1931
AMBASSADOR TO JAPAN 1936 - 1938
HE GAVE PYNELOGS TO THE COMMUNITY FOR A HOSPITAL
IN 1937, IT WAS KNOWN AS THE LADY ELIZABETH BRUCE
MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. IN THE YEARS FOLLOWING, IT WAS A
CARE HOME FOR SENIORS, A HOME FOR PEOPLE WITH
SPECIAL NEEDS AND AN ARTS CENTRE
