"This plaque was originally planned to extravagantly praise Dunedin, but now I want to remember the Maori passive resisters, abducted from Parihaka, shipped to Dunedin, held without trial, imprisoned, they were used as slaves to builds the sea walls of this harbour."
The plaque has the New Zealand Heritage Places Trust logo in the top right corner. 1848 was the date of the first organised settlement of Dunedin. This plaque may date to the 150th celebrations of settlement in 1998.
