LANDMARKS OF NEW YORK
NEW UTRECHT REFORMED CHURCH
THE WALLS OF THIS BUILDING, CONSTRUCTED IN EARLY GOTHIC REVIVAL STYLE IN 1828, CONTAIN STONES TAKEN FROM A PREDECESSOR CHURCH BUILT IN 1700. AS THE FIRST HOUSE OF WORSHIP FOR THE REFORMED, PROTESTANT DUTCH CHURCH OF NEW UTRECHT, ORGANIZED IN 1677. THE LIBERTY POLE IS THE SIXTH INSTALLED ON THE SAME SPOT TO MARK THE FIRST RAISING OF AN AMERICAN FLAG IN NEW UTRECHT FOLLOWING THE EVACUATION OF THE BRITISH IN NOVEMBER 1783.
