As a young bride living at No. 152 Beacon Street
(now demolished), Isabella Stewart Gardner
began surrounding herself with art and legend.
During 40 years she amassed a fabulous collec-
tion of art treasures now housed in her palazzo
on the Fenway. Along with her prized poses-
sions she acquired the reputation as the first
serious woman art collector in America.
When "Mrs. Jack" move to the Fenway in
1902, she stipulated that "her" number, 152,
never again be used on Beacon St.
