MOST PATRIOTIC VILLAGE
ON JUNE 6, 1944, WHICH WAS D-DAY IN EUROPE, THE VILLAGE OF ARTHUR WITH A POPULATION OF 836, HAD 116 SONS AND DAUGHTERS IN THE CANADIAN ARMED FORCES, MANY OF WHOM WERE OVERSEAS, AWAITING THE EUROPEAN INVASION. THIS WAS THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF ENLISTMENT OF ANY COMMUNITY IN CANADA - THUS THE DESCRIPTION OF ARTHUR AS CANADA'S "MOST PATRIOTIC VILLAGE".
IN REMEMBRANCE OF THIS FINE RECORD AND ESPECIALLY OF THOSE KILLED ON ACTIVE SERVICE, THIS PLAQUE IS PROUDLY DEDICATED TODAY.
