Lucie Eddie Campbell (1885-1963) was born in Duck Hill. After her father was killed in a railroad accident, she moved with her family to Memphis at an early age. A graduate of Rust College, she became a teacher and was active in state and national teacher's associations. A gifted musician, she also composed and published more than one hundred gospel songs, including "Something Within” in 1919. Known by many as the "Mother of Gospel Music,” Campbell was inducted in the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
