Hardy Residence

Emmet Hardy (1903-1925), cornetist and machinist, lived here at 237 Morgan Street from 1920-1923. He played in Brownlee’s Orchestra, the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, and in small groups with violinist Oscar Marcour, the Boswell Sisters, and drummer Arthur “Monk” Hazel. During his short life he attained a legendary status as a musician, and is said to have been an influence on cornetist Bix Beiderbecke, as well as having an “informal” cutting contest with Louis Armstrong.
