George Elmy Lifeboat Way

The George Elmy Lifeboat Way is the name given in 2013 to the new Top Dock Road in Seaham. It commemorates the lifeboat "George Elmy" which was involved in a disastrous rescue bid in 1962 which resulted in the loss of nine lives. The footway alongside the road carries the Durham Coast Path which along this section is also part of the England Coast Path.
