F.M. LIGHT
F.M. Light, shown here on horseback, arrived in Steamboat Springs by stagecoach in the early 1900's with his wife and seven children. In 1905 F.M. Light & Sons opened for business in this exact location selling clothes and other merchandise to the townspeople, ranchers and sheepmen in Northwest Colorado and Wyoming. It is the oldest retail establishment in Steamboat and is still owned and operated by descendants of F.M. Light. The store is also famous throughout the country for its advertising road signs which were erected in the late 1920's. Many of the original signs are still standing today and are considered historical landmarks.
This plaque is in the sidewalk at the front entrance to the store on Main Street.
