Earl Kitchener Public School
The Earl Kitchener Public School was originally located on this site. Opened in September of 1915 by the Toronto Board of Education, this school was jointly used by students from the City of Toronto and the Township of East York, In 1941, the building became the Toronto Normal School providing teacher education. The Normal School later evolved into the Toronto Teachers' College. A new building was opened in 1955. In 1978, Centennial College assumed both buildings, one of which is now the Bell Centre for Creative Communications. The Toronto Normal School was demolished in 1993. This plaque commemorates the Earl Kitchener Public School, the Toronto Normal School and the Toronto Teachers' College which are important parts of East York's built heritage.
