Upgraded in 2013, the 9.3 km trail leads from Fernie to the abandoned mining town of Coal Creek.12 interpretive signs describe the history of the area, and include information on the many fatal coal mine explosions in the area.Along the trail is St Margaret's cemetery where many of the miners killed in explosions at Coal Creek are buried. Some of the gravestones were erected by the United Mine Workers and bear the inscription ""8 hours"", a reminder of the battles for the eight hour work day of the 19th century. Many of the graves are unmarked.
