This is the plaque attached to the cable monument, a monument to the coming ashore here of the first trans-Atlantic submarine telegraph cable. It used to stop in a wooden hut here until relaid further down towards Porthcurno beach, where it was in use until 1962. The monument is seen in context here SW3922 : Cable monument.
