The sixth in a series of fifteen plaques unveiled to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012, following the history of Bournemouth through the ages using monarchs' reigns and jubilees as the steps in time. This sixth one relates to the first 25 years of the reign of Victoria (i.e. 1837-1862). The town is growing at some pace - a hotel opens on the Queen's coronation day; a chapel is formed as the parish church is at Holdenhurst (in SZ1295), and Georgina Talbot establishes a model village, today Talbot Village (SZ0794. A pier is established and the area is a magnet for invalids, owing to the perceived health benefits of the abundant pine trees. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaques for the introductory plaque, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: five of the Diamond Jubilee Plaques for an overall view of five of the plaques, providing some context. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (5) for the previous plaque in the series, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (7) for the next one.
