The fourth in a series of fifteen plaques unveiled to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012, following the history of Bournemouth through the ages using monarchs' reigns and jubilees as the steps in time. This fourth one relates to the reign of George IV (i.e. 1820-1830). During this decade Lewis Tregonwell is developing the area which will eventually become Bournemouth - a seaside resort is born. Horses pull bathing huts into the seawater and occupants then descend naked into the water - men and women kept well separate. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaques for the introductory plaque, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: five of the Diamond Jubilee Plaques for an overall view of five of the plaques, providing some context. See SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (3) for the previous plaque in the series, and SZ0890 : Bournemouth: Diamond Jubilee Plaque (5) for the next one.
