Beau Jocque (1953-1999)

Born Andrus J. Espree, Beau Jocque, was a Creole zydeco musician active in the 1990s. A large man (6'" and 270 pounds) he took the stage name "Beau Jocque," which is Louisiana Creole for "Big Guy." Beau Jocque was known for his thundering accordion style and booming gruff vocals.  With his band, the High Rollers, Beau Jocque added elements of rock and rap to zydeco to create a high-energy sound that resonated throughout the dancehalls.
In 1999, Beau Jocque died of a heart attack at the height of his career. He was only 45.  He was a long time resident of Kinder and is buried in St. Mathilda's Cemetery in Eunice.
