Established in the late 1880s, Baylis Chapel
Methodist Church is located on land donated by
George Baylis in 1882. The original wooden
structure, built in the late 1880s, was replaced by
the current church building in 1951. Among the
oldest Methodist congregations in Marion County,
Baylis Chapel has served as a community center,
school, and a place of worship for the nearby Keno
community. Land for the cemetery was donated
by Luke Broom in 1888. The earliest grave is
that of George Baylis (1825-1899).
