Acadian House

The Acadian House was constructed on museum property in 1975. It was built from cypress lumber that was originally part of an old mule barn dismantled at Rapidan Plantation in St. James Parish.

The frame was built in the mortise-and-tenon construction and the walls were sheetrock plastered to give the appearance of the traditional bousillage finish.

A continuous pitch-gabled roof covers both the main room and a small, separate kitchen, or cabinet in the rear. The exterior stairway leads to a second floor loft or grenier.
