441 E. Chester

This plaque is located next to the front door of the DCA/DCPR Building in downtown. The building is the former Griffin Funeral Home, and it is now a mixed-use property (commercial and residential). The plaque reads:

441
E. Chester
In 1870's this was the location of the
Milton Brown estate. 1890's a boarding
house for the faculty of the Methodist
Conference Female Institute. 1930's the
house stood vacant and was known as
the "Ghost House" around Jackson until
it was destroyed. In 1935 the property
was purchased by Mr. Griffin. The two
story structure was built and served as
their business, Griffin Funeral Home, and
residence. The business sold several times
until closing in 1990's. Late 1990's
the building became the property
of Seth Chandler and
Associates.
