18th Century Cistern

This well dates from the first third of the 18th century. It was located on property which belonged to the Phillipse family of Phillipse Manor. The well originally extended down to the water table, providing for the inhabitants of the block. When it was no longer used, it was filled with relatively intact objects discarded from everyday life.
